State governors of the platforms of the All Progressives Congress have said they are working with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to ensure that the party exists beyond 2023.

The governors, who spoke under the aegis of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, also promised to ensure the resolution of the crisis rocking the party soonest.

The National Working Committee of the APC had in December raised a 10-member National Reconciliation Committee headed by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, to resolve lingering crisis in the party.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Friday, the Jigawa State Governor and Co-Chairman of the PGF Governance Programme Steering Committee, Muhammadu Badaru, said they had extracted commitment from the President on the survival of the party.

He spoke while responding to a warning by the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, that the APC might not survive beyond 2023.

The second term of the President ends on May 29, 2023.

Badaru said, “On the survival of the APC after the President, President Buhari made a commitment to the governors that he would support us in any way to make sure that the party survives and waxes stronger even after him.”

Also speaking on the crisis in the party, Badaru said, “What I will have to say on the party is that the leadership of the APC, Progressives Governors’ Forum, was working day and night to ensure that the issue is resolved.

“I assure you that Mr President is also looking at the issue to make sure that the leadership crisis is resolved and it will be resolved in no time,” he said.

Stating the objective of the committee, the co-chairman and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, said it would focus more on strengthening the capacity of states to have increased commitment to implement approved initiatives.
